Question: Did you know that the Bible seems to presuppose the economic freedom of Christians, and of all economic actors more generally?

In fact, Revelation treats it as an undesirable thing when the stamp of the beast (probably describing the pagan Roman empire) is required in order to buy and sell. (Rev. 13:17) In the Old Testament, King Artaxerxes, on the stirring up of God, exempted all things connected to the temple from having to pay any taxes. (Ezra 7:24) Under the Mosaic code, the freedom of contract was recognized as a matter of course and of law (for example in Leviticus 6:2). Therefore, it is wise for us to also presuppose the freedom of economic actors.
